A School with a View – Topping Out Ceremony for New Build

On Tuesday 29th March, we were invited to attend the 'Topping Out' Ceremony of the new Pears Maudsley Centre for Children and Young People, an exciting milestone in the construction of the building.

This was our first opportunity to visit the school levels of the building on the 7th and 8th floors.   We had a sneak preview of the spectacular views of the City of London from the roof of the Centre, that will be enjoyed by children, young people, and staff, when it opens its doors next year.

The event included speeches, the nailing of an evergreen bough and even an accompanying bagpiper, who could be heard in the school’s current accommodations far below.   The highlight was seeing an ex-pupil pour a symbolic final section of cement to “finish” the building.

This marks another milestone for the school’s provision at our Maudsley site, where we will look forward to moving into an outstanding physical environment which mirrors the quality and aspiration of the learning within.
