Self-Evaluation and Continuous Improvement
At Maudsley and Bethlem Hospital School, self-evaluation is a cornerstone of our commitment to excellence. Each year, we undertake a rigorous process of review and planning to ensure that our provision remains of the highest quality and responsive to the needs of our students. This process is structured around the Self-Evaluation Form (SEF) and the School Development Plan (SDP), which together drive continuous improvement and accountability.
Our approach:
• Involves a detailed annual review of all aspects of school performance, including the quality of education, behaviour and attitudes, personal development, and leadership and management.
• Draws on multiple sources of evidence such as student progress data, safeguarding records, stakeholder feedback, and external evaluations.
• Is completed each summer by the Senior Leadership Team in consultation with staff and governors, ensuring collective reflection and ownership.
• Runs in parallel with a RAG-rated School Development Plan, reviewed termly by the Governing Body to monitor progress and impact.
• Directly informs the next academic year’s SDP, ensuring that priorities remain sharply focused, measurable, and aligned with the school’s evolving context.
• Forms part of the wider Goldfinch Trust Quality Assurance Framework, ensuring consistency of standards, accountability, and best practice across all Trust schools.
• Is available within school for review by School Improvement Partners, governors, Ofsted, and other authorised external stakeholders where required.
Through this structured cycle of self-evaluation, reflection, and planning, we sustain an exceptional standard of education and care, and continually refine our practice in line with Trust, national, and local priorities.
